Green backyard weddings are popular with Hollywood set designers.  Think of the backyard wedding we watched being put together throughout the Steve Martin version of Father of the Bride.  How about the Jennifer Garner movie entitled Thirteen going on Thirty? And why not? The opportunity to make use of the beauty of nature coupled with good landscaping is too good to pass up. But did you know that a backyard wedding can help make the most of a wedding budget and help the environment at the same time?

Seriously, a green backyard nuptial celebration can save money for the new couple because:

• There are no venue rental fees. This by itself can be huge depending on the alternative the couple is considering.
• Usually less need for flowers to dress up the grounds.

• When family and friends already live close-by a backyard wedding minimizes the need for people to drive, saving gas and congestion on the roads.
• Since backyard weddings are easier to mount during daylight hours of the long spring and summer days, less electricity is used.
• Most backyard weddings hold both the reception and the ceremony in the same area saving the need for extra driving both by the guests and wedding professionals.
• Garden weddings make use of the beauty of nature the owner has cultivated for their enjoyment anyway - or they bring in plants to landscape the area, creating a natural landscape that can be enjoyed and will create new oxygen for years to come.

Is your backyard not "nice enough" for a wedding? Dress it up. Invest some of the money that would have been spent on the venue rental to purchase a few potted plants that will add color to the wedding and either plant them in the yard or keep them in pots and give them to special guests at the end of the celebration. This will help ensure that your green backyard wedding leaves a legacy of beauty and vitality that will endure long after the day is over.
