How Do I Save Money in My Wedding Scheduling?

We've all heard brides asking how to save money in the scheduling of a wedding. Most of us who have gotten married have asked the question ourselves at some point. Usually when a young couple asks it is because they feel so overwhelmed by everything facing them in the daunting task of planning a wedding that they are beginning to doubt that it is even possible to schedule a wedding and save money without giving away their firstborn and the first option on the second child.

Of course, the question is relative. If the young couple's expectations are not based on reality - if they view every day and time as equal and all wedding venues are no different than the last then no, there is no way to save money through your wedding scheduling.

On the other hand, if the couple has taken the time to learn what factors affect how much a couple pays for the various components of a wedding then it is very possible to save money through the way a couple chooses to schedule their wedding.

Some of the factors that demand that the scheduling of the wedding will affect the couple's ability to save money include:

Community Events

Avoid scheduling your wedding to coincide with the annual Shiners (or square dancers, etc) convention, or prom events and a bride will save money on venue, hotel, & possibly photography and / or catering costs for the wedding.

Holidays

Scheduling your wedding away from Valentines Day and Mother's Day will save you money on your wedding flowers. Doubt it? Mother's day just passed and I was amazed to see how much less the flower companies were advertising their arrangements for today than just a week ago!

Holidays

Yep, you read that right... depending on what you want for the decor of your wedding sometimes you can save money on wedding decor by scheduling your wedding in a place such as a church around a time such as Christmas when they normally do more to decorate the facility.

Time of Year

The law of supply and demand always comes into play. If a wedding professional is busy, you are going to pay more to get them to fit you into their schedule. Save money by scheduling your wedding when the industry is slower and more willing to cut you a deal.

Day of the Week

Be very careful with this one. You can save a lot of money by scheduling your wedding on a day other than Saturday, but... Often I have heard guests complain that such scheduling inconveniences them beyond what they can afford in terms of time off work or more. It might not seem like much when you are faced with the cost of a wedding but what price do you put on family peace?

The trick, of course, is to decide what is important to you. How important is it that you wedding be held in early June (or on 7/7/07)? How important is it that your wedding be held on your groom's parent's anniversary? Like it or not your decision might directly affect the cost of your wedding. The flip side, though, is that it truly is possible to save money on your wedding simply by choosing your wedding schedule carefully.
